5 February 2011

  • IBQ supports the development of women professionals and entrepreneurs
  • 3rd edition of How Women Work conference is endorsed by QBWA and organized by Arcata
  • The conference will focus on issues faced by today’s working women and host a line-up of high-profile speakers
  • The conference follows a series of workshop held throughout 2011 and the How Women Succeed book launch in October 2011

The much-anticipated How Women Work conference is slated to take place on March 7 and 8 at the Renaissance Hotel next to City Centre in Doha. The third edition of the conference, supported again by IBQ through their magazine sponsorship, will see a line-up of high-profile multinational speakers sharing insights and experiences centered on some of the main issues faced by working women today.

The conference follows a series of workshops and seminars held throughout 2011, championed by businesswomen in Qatar and the launch of the How Women Succeed book, sponsored exclusively by IBQ, which took place in October of last year at Katara.

This year’s conference will revolve around four streams targeting general community topics and others aimed at entrepreneurs, employees and individuals with the continued support of the Qatar Business Women’s Association (QBWA), the Qatar Professional Women’s Network (QPWN), The Youth Company and Empire Advertising.

The How Women Work conference is endorsed by the QBWA and organised by Arcata Interactive Communication Coaching and Empower People and focuses on inspiring women to create their personal and professional success.

Philip King, Head of Retail Banking said on this occasion: “We’re happy to partner once again with Arcata in order to see another successful edition of the How Women Work conference.  This is an endeavor we firmly believe in and we value the significant role it plays in promoting business literacy amongst the growing number of businesswomen in Qatar.”

Philip added:  “We are witnessing an increasing number of women professionals and entrepreneurs strongly and confidently investing in the domestic business scene and at IBQ we have recognized their needs for funding and support. This is why we have developed tailor-made banking solutions to befit their aspirations such as the IBQ Ladies Banking. We feel that the How Women Work conference is a key initiative in spreading financial and business education in general which falls directly in-line with the CSR approach we have adopted for years.”

Carolin Zeitler, Founder of How Women Work Conference, said “We see a lot of potential in empowering women here in Qatar to grow and succeed. Whether we are nationals or expatriates, we all face similar challenges in terms of enabling authenticity and continuous, sustainable growth in our careers and lives. Being women, most of us prefer to work in the context of a community, we thrive on exchange and mutual support – I’m sure the concept of ‘win-win’ was originally conceived by a woman.”

“Thanks a lot for your great efforts in putting all the small details together. I really appreciate what you have done for women in general and for Qatari women in particular. I was so happy to see more Qatari women attending presentations this year. The debate and the panel were great. I am speechless of what you have done to women and I am looking forward to participating every year.” says Dr Kholode Al-Obaidli PhD, Senior Manager, Qatar Airways, who was a speaker at the 2011 event.

The “How Women Succeed” book, which was sponsored by IBQ and has been available in stores since last year, is a spin-off of the annual How Women Work conference and an inspiring CSR initiative. Proceeds from the book sale will be used to provide professional development opportunities to women of limited means, thus empowering not only its readers but also many other women in Qatar.
